Tangier Ibn Battouta airport (code TNG) lies south-west of the city, on the road to the Atlantic coast. It is run by ONDA, Morocco’s airports authority, and receives scheduled and low-cost flights from the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany. The arrivals hall is compact: after passport control and baggage reclaim you will find cash machines, currency exchange desks and mobile operators selling SIM cards.

Taxi, bus or transfer: Tangier airport to city centre options

Grand taxi. Grand taxis wait outside the terminal. They are convenient, but you need to agree on the fare before getting in, which is not always easy after a flight, especially at night. Also check that the car can take all your luggage.

Bus. Bus links between the airport and the city exist but are infrequent and not ideal with suitcases. It is a budget option if you travel light and have time.

Private transfer. The most comfortable choice: your driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name and drops you at your hotel door. Is your riad inside the medina? The lanes are closed to cars, so the driver parks as close as possible, at the Kasbah or the Grand Socco, and walks you to the door.
