Looking for a Tangier bus tour to discover the city without getting lost? Tangier has a double-decker hop-on hop-off bus that links the main sights. Note: as of October 2026 the official website says the service is temporarily suspended, so check that it has resumed before planning around it. Here is how it works, what you can see and when a private option is more convenient.

The Tangier bus tour: two routes

Tanger City Tour, run by Alsa with the Julià group, offers two lines from the port:

  • The city route: 9 April Square (Grand Socco), Moulay Hafid Palace, the Phoenician necropolis, Mohammed V Mosque, Place Faro, Villa Harris and the Tanja Marina Bay.
  • The Caves of Hercules route: Socco Alto, Perdicaris Park, Cape Spartel, the Caves of Hercules and the Royal Country Club.

You can hop off, visit and catch the next bus. However, departures are less frequent in low season, so check timetables and prices on the official Tanger City Tour website before your visit.

Pros and cons of the tourist bus

The bus is perfect for a first overview, with open views from the top deck. On the other hand, it does not wait for you and follows a fixed route. With children, older travellers or a tight schedule, waiting at the stops can quickly become tiring.

Private alternatives to explore Tangier

  • Tangier tour with driver: our Tangier city tour covers the medina, the Kasbah, Cape Spartel and the Caves of Hercules in about four hours, with hotel pick-up.
  • Driver by the hour: a private driver in Tangier takes you wherever you want, at your own pace.
  • Minibus for groups: for 8 to 17 people, our group transport is a great replacement for a coach tour.

These options are part of our transport in Tangier: air-conditioned vehicles, fixed prices and payment to the driver on the day.

What not to miss in Tangier

Whichever option you choose, do not miss the Kasbah and its view over the Strait, Café Hafa, the Grand Socco and Cape Spartel at sunset. For more ideas, read our guide to things to do in Tangier.
