After pickup at your hotel, riad or preferred meeting point in Tangier, the road crosses the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen. Your guided walking tour starts on Outa el Hammam square and its traditional cafés, continues to the Kasbah and the Grand Mosque, then winds through souks full of crafts and textiles and into the quiet old Jewish quarter. Every blue-washed lane, stairway and doorway is a photo opportunity. Free time follows for lunch (not included) – fresh goat cheese, tajine or couscous are local favourites.

Guided walk to the Akchour waterfalls

In the afternoon, a drive of about 45 minutes leads into Talassemtane National Park. With a local guide, you follow a moderate trail along a turquoise river, past rock formations, small waterfalls and emerald pools. There is time to relax by the water or cool your feet in the natural pools before the drive back to Tangier, where you arrive in the evening. Wear good walking shoes, and bring swimwear in summer if you would like to enjoy the pools.
