Not far from Chefchaouen, the Akchour waterfalls are one of the most beautiful nature walks in northern Morocco. Turquoise pools, green gorges and the natural arch of God’s Bridge: here is how to plan your day.

Where are the Akchour waterfalls?
The village of Akchour lies at the entrance of Talassemtane National Park, in the Rif mountains. From Chefchaouen, the drive takes about 35 minutes to an hour. The trails start from the car park next to the dam and follow the river.
Two hikes to choose from
- The small waterfalls: an easy walk along the water, ideal with children, with several pools to cool off.
- The big waterfall: about two hours on foot from the village, with a few rocky sections and a spectacular finale.
In addition, a second trail leads to God’s Bridge, a natural arch above the gorge. It is a great option when the waterfalls run low at the end of summer.
Practical tips
- Wear shoes with good grip: the rocks are slippery near the water.
- Bring water, a swimsuit and a towel.
- Start early in summer to avoid the heat and the crowds.
- After heavy rain, skip the gorges: the water rises quickly.
