Set on the edge of the Atlantic, the Hassan II Mosque is Casablanca’s most spectacular landmark. Its 210-metre minaret is one of the tallest in the world, and it is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. Here is how to plan your Hassan II Mosque visit, including from Tangier.

The Hassan II Mosque, facing the ocean

Completed in 1993, the mosque is partly built over the sea. The country’s finest craftsmen worked the marble, zellige tiles, carved cedar wood and stucco. The huge esplanade lets you admire the façade and the minaret even without going inside.

Hassan II Mosque visit: how does the guided tour work?

Non-Muslim visitors can only enter on a guided tour, offered in several languages outside prayer times. It covers the prayer hall and the ablution rooms. Hours and prices change with the season and during Ramadan, so check them on the Hassan II Mosque Foundation website before you go.

  • Cover your shoulders and knees; bring a headscarf.
  • Take your shoes off at the prayer hall entrance.
  • Arrive a little early, especially in high season.

Getting from Tangier to Casablanca

There are two options. First, the ONCF Al Boraq high-speed train links Tangier to Casablanca in just over two hours. Second, a private car drops you right at the mosque: our Tangier to Casablanca transfer costs €154 for 1 to 3 passengers, for about 340 km of motorway.

Combine Casablanca and Rabat

On the way, Rabat deserves a stop: the Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum and the Kasbah of the Udayas. Our Rabat day trip from Tangier can be extended to Casablanca on request, and our imperial cities tour includes both cities. These trips are part of our transport in Tangier.
